German bass
He studied voice privately in Paris, becoming a member of the opera at Zürich in 1870. He then sang in Cologne, and from 1873 to 1877 was the leading bass at the Frankfurt am Main Opera. He was at Hamburg opera 1888-1894 . Sang at the Bayreuth festivals 1886-1891 singing the roles of King Marke in “ Tristan & Isolde’ , Pogner in ‘Meistersanger of Nuremberg” Landgraf & Hermann in “Tannhauser”
