Alfa Giulia 1963. June 1968

Alfa Giulia 1963. June 1968
On the way home from the harbor where I took delivery of the car after transport from Europe. Still as a left hand steering vehicle.
My friend took the pic with my Yashica 44 and this was a scan of a print made commercially. Film etc unknown. Probably Adox KB17 and FX-2.

, , and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

What a great car. My mother had an Alfa Spider in the late 70ies early 80ies.

I was very proud of that car. We drove around Europe when we lived in Amsterdam and Copenhagen '67'68.t was a '64 model Sprint with the 5 speed box which unfortunately had the absolutely terrible Alfa synchromesh. I had it serviced once and it was back to normal (awful) 2 weeks later.

I think it would have been R17 Adox and the developer probably FX-2 but after all this time I cannot be sure. Maybe I just took it to the shop and accepted whatever that did with it. At that time we were like nomads and wandering the world.

We had quite a few Alfas in the family. My father had an Alfetta and an Alfa 90, my mother the Spider and I had a 33 4x4 Station Wagon. No gear box problems with any of those, but they were more than 15 years younger than yours. Not sure if I still have pics. Must look. Those were still driving machines.

I suspect the Alfetta had a similar gearbox with Porsche slip-ring synchro that was quite badly done. I alternated Alfa/Fiat - 1500, 2100, The Giulia and after a 124 Sports coupe I had an Alfa-sud. Some would say it wasn't really an Alfa but it ran like clockwork. Then an X-1/9 and a Fiat 3200 which car put me right off Italian cars altogether. Damon has kept up the good work and they have a Lancia HPE and an Alfa 47. They still seem to spend too much time in the garage. You did know that FIAT stood for 'fix it again, Tony"? :-)

A very pretty car indeed. I recall reading that the coefficient of drag was 0.33 which is a figure even modern road cars don't meet. Very slippery!

Yes, Rob. That shape came out at Geneva about 1954 as a Giulietta and in 1960 IIRC the 1600cc motor was grafted in and it was called the Giulia. This was a 1964 'Sprint' because it had the 5 speed box. The picture was indeed 1968 in Brisbane. That shape disappeared with the introduction of the GT in 1965.
