Upernavik

Upernavik lies on a small island at 72° 47′ 2″ N (Nordkapp at "only" 71° 10′ 21!).
It boasts of an airport on top of the hill behind town which is just about suitable for Air Greenland's Dash 8. Upernavik has permafrost that thaws superficially in summer, making everyting muddy. 2023 was even muddier than usual because Greenland had an extremely wet/rainy summer.

This is a really lovely shot Gudrun..........despite (or perhaps because of) the grey clouds, the light is gorgeous and shows up the colours of these beautiful wooden houses perfectly.

The detail in this scene is just excellent, not just in the houses, but in the foreground too. The PiP is excellent in this regard.

Schönen Dank, Edna! Der Ort sah irgendwie noch gammeliger aus als die anderen, sicher wegen dem angetauten Permafrost;-) Die Treppen gibt's in jedem grönländischen Ort, zu den Häusern und als Wege den Berg hoch. Manchmal nicht mehr so ganz stabil;-)

Die nördlichen Länder sind leider alle sehr teuer und in Grönland kostet schon der Flug dorthin ordentlich, vor allem mit Air Greenland. Über Reykjavik ist es glaube ich etwas günstiger.
