On old Ruta 40 between Perito Moreno and Bajo Caracoles. The "new" Ruta 40 has been rerouted in this area losing a few ups and downs and some curves.

Thanks very much, Amelia! Indeed, filling stations are far apart, the nearest is in Bajo Caracoles, a crossroads of 33 inhabitants with a "hotel"/ café/shop and a petrol pump. When we visited it had a decidedly "old" Patagonia feel to it, the shop sold a vast selection of dangerous looking Gaucho knives;-)

I think Ulrich nailed it when he called it a moonscape!

It's seems like a very unforgiving landscape but in the sunshine, it has a stark beauty to it. I like the earthy colours and the blue sky. An interesting set of images Gudrun.
