Good information in your notes on the picture Gudrun and so much easier to gauge the scale with the vehicles and people in the main shot. In your first PiP we can see how precarious the landscape is and the trio in your second PiP is so well put together! Amazing shots!!

Vielen Dank, Lothar! Den hat der Chef der Busfirma selber zusammengebaut, Lastwagenchassis aus den 60ern und Bus aus den 70ern. Jetzt steht er meistens in der Garage und wenn er mal raus darf, fährt der Chef ihn selber;-)

Das Hauptbild is klasse, mit den "kleinen" Autos! ;-D
Die Collage is auch cool - sieht schon aus, als könnte man da "Seekrank" werden! ;-D

Three superb images Gudrun. The main image shows us another wonderful landscape. From this perspective you do not see the scars and craters so much and it seems more conventionally beautiful, if you understand what I mean. The bus and people are good for scale and perfectly place in the shot.

Thank you so much, Keith! Depending on where you stood the crater rows looked harmless or not. Going back we were lucky that the sun had come out!

Tolle Landschaft. Es sieht so aus, als wäre es besser gewesen an dieser Stelle auszusteigen. War wohl keine recht komfortable Fahrt - sieht nach Schritttempo aus.

Schönen Dank, Leo! Schritttempo war da die ganze Zeit angesagt, aber die Stelle fühlte sich im Bus auf der Rückfahrt viel harmloser an als sie hier aussieht;-) Wir sind abwechselnd gefahren (auf den "langweiligeren" Abschnitten) oder gelaufen, wo es Interessantes zu sehen gab.

Safari mal anders, die Landschaft ist schon besonders ! Grüße MAIK

Scale shouldn't be relative, but it is! These vehicles seem MASSIVE compared to my expectations!

Thanks a lot, Andy! The most massive thing about the vehicles are their wheels and chassis, they usually are from lorries and the rest is a normal vehicle put on top. You need extra steps to climb into them;-)

That must have been quite a trip. Quite spectacular countryside, but I see why this area is not frequently visited by tourists.

Thank you so much, George! The bus wasn't exactly comfortable to sit in but it was fun! Thankfully tourists with inadequate cars aren't tempted there because they'd have to cross a ford right at the start of the track.

One can see from your photos the advantages of taking organised trips in Iceland. The tracks seem only to be fit for off-road vehicles. I assume that this is near where the ill-prepared Brits were rescued.

Only experienced 4x4 drivers should try to tackle such tracks, so organized tours are definitely better:-) The Brits had to be rescued much further away in the true highlands, this place here is only a few km from civilization.
They had to go on a search and rescue mission though when one of the local farmers disappeared in winter. He had fallen into a crater hidden under the snow while searching for some sheep. They managed to find him alive after two days!

Das scheint mir, eine spannende offroad Tour gewesen zu sein...

We once took an organized trip to visit Askja Caldera in the Dyngjufjoll Mountains, as the car we rent was not a 4x4 jeep...these beautiful images of yours remind me of that tour. Never tired to contemplate and enjoy Iceland gorgeous landscape. Great work Gudrun!
