Well, the first thing that came into my mind was knitting patterns;-) This is part of the first Norwegian jumper I knitted many years ago.

, Heide, Diane Putnam, Leo W and 7 other people have particularly liked this photo

Many thanks, Amelia! I did a lot of knitting and preferred patterns because they were less boring and you could see your progress,-) This was done with one of the Dale patterns where they tell you exactly how many stitches and rows....

A lot of work involved! And a classic example of a symmetric pattern

Thanks a lot, Val! I used to knit a lot, not any longer though. I bought the pattern and wool on a visit to Oslo.

Thank you, Harriet! The pattern was created by Dale for the Norwegian skiers, I don't remember whether it was world cup or Olympics...

Vielen Dank, Tanja!

Thank you, Karen! That was long ago, knitting was quite the rage then:-)

It was here too. I used to knit all the time. Nothing quite this intricate with all the different colors, though. That must be hard to do. I could never figure out what to do with all the ends. :-O

The beauty with Norwegian style knitting on a round needle is that you don't have many ends and not many seams either: They knit a big tube from bottom to top, make machine seams on both sides of the arm holes, cut open and sew the arms in. The arms are also knitted round without seams:-) It works a treat!

I have done a little bit of knitting with circular needles. That sounds fantastic and would get rid of a lot of sewing of seams too. Danke, Gudrun.

Knitting continental style makes it much easier btw (plenty of online tutorials for that).

Wow! Your stitches are so even. This is not an easy pattern.

Thanks a lot, Esther! It's all done on one long round neddle which makes it much easier.

O...M...G! You knitted that? It's perfect, I am very impressed by your skill, Gudrun, and this is indeed a great "pattern."
Gudrun club has replied to Diane Putnam club
Many thanks, Diane! Actually it's not that difficult if you knit a) continental style, b) on a round needle c) knit a tube and cut afterwards, Norwegian style. I could never understand the anglo-saxon style of knitting, it looks awfully cumbersome;-)
