friends in eternity : "quelle connerie, la guerre !"

O Herr , schenke allen armen Seelen die ewige Ruhe !

This was written in the golden book in La Cambe, the german war cemetery, in Normandy. On the leftside of the picture, overhanging the sea, OMAHA BEACH cimetery, where 10.000 american soldiers are buried. (10.000 other soldiers have been repatriated). On the rightside,, the cimetery of LA CAMBE, where 24.000german soldiers are buried.
There is quite a difference of atmosphere in those two cimetaries : whereas the American cemetery is white bright and even glorious, the german one is dark, and has got the romantic (being part of nature ) dark make of the defeated . Lets not forget the grieving soldiers : many of them, on both sides were just kids, and died, there, on OMAHA BEACH, at the age of 18, and even 17. Lets not forget them. !

à gauche, le cimetière de OMAHA BEACH où sont enterrés 10000 soldats américains .
à droite, le cimetière de LA CAMBE où sont enterrés 24000 soldats allemands.
I y a une grande différence d'atmosphère entre les deux cimetières...
Tandis que le cimetière américan se dresse dans sa blancheur glorieuse, le cimetière allemand, pour sa part a le côté sombre du "vaincu", et la représentation romantique liée à la nature...

Comme un retable moderne,
avec au centre ce soldat mort-vivant
aux airs de crucifié
entre ces forêts de croix.
