Regret

Regret
Martin Czerny

Although there are many heritage sites linked to the industrial revolution on my doorstep, I've only begun to visit them over the past few years, even though my dad would often tell me stories of how his own childhood was linked to them. Hidden in the bowels of Smethwick, Galton Bridge is one such site, which inspires surprise and awe when it's seen for the first time - mainly because you don't expect something like this to exist in Smethwick. Opened in 1869, the bridge was built by Thomas Telford, and was a source of inspiration for the young Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Strangely, it's only since I've gotten older that I've begun to appreciate the beauty of these structures and their historical value.

What lovely music. Someone I had never heard of but will seek out. Thanks, Rachel.

(It is fascinating how one's perception of an image can be altered by extraneous elements such as a title and accompanying music. This is a moody image because of the clouds and the monochrome treatment. The concentration is on the fence and the lamp-post; however once "Regret" is referenced the concentration shifts to the figure. The melancholic music reinforces the title. I do like the image per se, but wonder if my liking is enhanced by these extraneous things. Hmm, must think further on this.)

I think that's a fair assessment. I was thinking along those lines myself.

Lovely silhouettes against a dramatic sky..............there is a very gloomy feel to it. Perfect in black and white.
