Selective Enlargement
It seems a long time ago that film processors used the term 'selective enlargement', but it is a perfect description. This is something of a test of the Tamron SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD lens which I used to make the bigger photograph of which this is a selective enlargement.

1. The Tamron SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD is a capable lens.
2. Whilst it can do portraits, you need to get closer to the subject(s) than is comfortable, and that might introduce distortion. I was certainly not close enough on this occasion.
3. I would have done better with a 50mm lens, or an 85mm. Maybe I should try the Tamron SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD on a DX camera where it will provide a field of view like a 50mm lens, but keep the benefits of a wider-angle, such as depth of field.
