Oilcans

Oilcans
Photographed with a Nikkor-O.C 35mm f/2 lens and a Nikon Close-Up No.4T supplementary lens on a Nikon D700.

John FitzGerald, Steve Bucknell have particularly liked this photo

Dynamic and intense, it oils the doors of perception....I'd have to be William Carlos Williams to do this red and green justice...or Wallace Stevens...

Thanks. I like 'dynamic and intense' and when I have five minutes I'll look those references up. You are dealing with an ignoramus. I suppose you know that.

It looks as though Ipernity might be able to continue.

Yes, it does look promising, although much depends on generating sufficient income, and ipernity is something of a minnow in a large (albeit shrinking) pond. It deserves to succeed because it has interesting, erudite, civilised and thoughtful members; but it could become an internet elite because of the high subscription model. I'm trying out Smugmug. It costs more, but potentially gives more. If I get deleted from ipernity before I make my mind up about Smugmug, I guess I can join up again if it survives. But in the short term I believe my $50 can be applied elsewhere with more certainty and options.

Wow. That's my considered opinion.

A postscript on the theme of internet galleries. I have just deleted my flickr account which I have had for eight years, not because flickr is ugly, nor because it is infested with sales representatives often of a seedy disposition, but because under new ownership (Verizon) it is going to use my personal information and internet activity as a commodity to share far and wide with the aim of selling stuff. I can't allow myself to acquiesce in my own exploitation.
