Claud the Butler
Photographed with the much-maligned 70-300mm f4-4.5 G Nikkor lens. Its critics point out the absence of ED glass; its softness beyond 200mm at wider apertures; and its 'flimsy' build, because it has a plastic mount. What they don't say is how well it performs at f/8 when used at 90mm, as this picture of a Citroën H-Type van shows. Nor do they point out how light in weight it is, and how cheap on the used market - mine is mint and cost £50. Sometimes I shoot all day with this lens, when the conditions suit it. Don't be frightened off by the lens snobs; this Nikkor is OK for the money.
