Girona
Following that specific romanesque style, that we had seen in Roussillon, we crossed the border/the Pyrenees to Spain/to Catalonia. I knew, that Wilfred the Hairy had played an important role on bot sides of the mountains and so the first stop was Girona.
The Visigoths had ruled in Girona until it was conquered by the Moors. In 785 Charlemagne reconquered the place. In deed the same decade the abbey in nearby Arless-sur-Tech (just seen) was founded with Charles´ support. The Moors returned under Hischam I in 793 and Girona got destroyed and looted. In 878 Wilfred the Hairy incorporated Girona into the countship of Barcelona.
The view from one of the bridges is the "Kodak-point" in Girona. All tourist take this. So did I!
That evening we had the first funny encounter with the catalonian language. After a long "talk" with a waiter, who only spoke and understood catalonian, about the menu (in catalonian), we just ordered something with "pork" and ended up with giant serving of pig's trotters.
