Courtenay - Salle des fêtes
Aristide Bruant, best known as the man in the red scarf and black cape on posters by his friend Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, was born in Courtenay in 1851. He left Courtenay at age fifteen and later made his way to the Montmartre Quarter of Paris, where was famed as singer, comedian and nightclub owner.
If gifted Aristide Bruant would have stayed in Courtenay, developing his talents here, the "Salle des fêtes" would probably nit be in such a ruined state.
