cvd - England : cases/ages heatmap, 21st June 2021
Taken from the UK gov't Covid-19 dashboard.
This is the pandemic, as seen in the County of Northumberland.
Visible are -
1) First Wave : with the elderly suffering most cases [note, very limited testing so many mild cases would have been missed]
2) the very few cases during the summer of 2020
3) Second Wave : started in young adultd / secondary school age groupd, then spread generally to give infections in all age groups. Note the dip from the weak November lockdown and the rebound in cases, especially in the elderly after the winter holiday season social mixing. 'Kent' variant probably dominant in the second period of the Second Wave.
4) the almost complete lack of recent cases after vaccinating the more elderly population sector.
5) cluster of primary school cases in late March 2021
6) steady stream of low case numbers from late March 2021
7) Sudden burst of cases (again intially concentrated in 15 to 24 yr olds) as the Third Wave takes off, with infections from the 'Indian' variant.
8) Vaccinations should now be protecting most of the over 55s
Interpretation is mine.
