Motorway train

Motorway train
During 1970/1971 a number of flyash trains were run to points in Somerset, in connection with the construction of the M5 Motorway, consisting of a rake of HAA hoppers and hauled by a pair of South Wales based Class 37s. Here we see one such train heading west at Bristol Temple Meads, headed by 6996+6603. 6603 was later renumbered to 37303/37271/37333, whilst 6996 became 37296, then eventually found fame as DRS loco 37423. In the background can be seen a Bubble Car on the Beach Buggy service to Severn Beach.

This is where they ended up - or at least fairly close to the end - the spur through Highbridge SDJR. www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/26460265 - there are a couple more adjacent to this photo.
