A shot from our Amtrak railway journey from Salt Lake City to San Francisco on the Southern Pacific route in 1979. This was taken from the open end-of-carriage connecting door.

We were passing through the snow-covered Sierra Nevada in eastern California between Truckee & Colfax but I can't be any more precise on the actual location.

It was already open Graham but I'm not sure who opened it. I suspect in the risk-averse 21st century it wouldn't be! At 7,000ft the Donner Pass can be a deadly place in mid-Winter.

Fantastic view well framed. And Truckee sounds (and looks) about right, I often traveled across and hiked in the Sierra Nevada when I lived in Sacramento.

Thanks. Part of an even bigger journey. We were en route to Indonesia via Australia! Couldn't take the train all the way though...
