Gayton limekiln
The chalk quarry at Gayton was operating in the early 19th century and probably before. There were at least three limekilns around the quarries here, but this was the longest lasting having operated until 1975 which makes it the last traditional kiln to work in Norfolk. This view is taken looking into the draw chamber which is below ground. It was apparently fired with anthracite in later years.
