Middlewood
The Allison family initially started coal mining in about 1923 at Middlewood, near Poynton In Cheshire. Lancelot Allison was a well qualified mining engineer from Annfield Plain in Durham. The coal mining soon ended but they then opened a brickworks on the site and founded the Middlewood Brick Company. The works was taken over by Joe Booth in 1930 but went into liquidation a year later. It was subsequently taken over by Yorkshire Amalgamated products and run under the Cheshire Brick Company title.
