What's left?
Violently taken away...
What's left?
Murdered far away…
What's left?
Our houses where we lived in…
What's left?
Our names to be remembered…
---
In the war about 215 people were taken away from their houses on the Nieuwe Keizergracht 2 - 70 in Amsterdam, and deported to concentration camps. Less than 15 of them did return after the war.
To remember this a monument along the opposite side of the gracht (canal) was created, next to the Hermitage. Opposite of each housenumber nameplates were placed.
The gracht with housenumbers 12-14 can be seen here: www.ipernity.com/doc/299737/37884828. It makes it much more poignant to see individual names.
