Sticky Purple Geranium / Geranium viscosissimum

Sticky Purple Geranium / Geranium viscosissimum
I find the seedpods of wild Sticky Purple Geranium so fascinating, the way the capsule (2.5-3 cm long) splits from the bottom upward, curling into five parts (but only three on this one), resulting in this neat little "chandelier" : ) "The strip pops upward as if it were spring loaded, which in effect, it is. As the seedpod attached to the bottom of the strip arcs upward, the seed inside is tossed away from the mother plant." This one was found on prairie grassland west of Nanton, Alberta, on 27th August. A common, native wildflower, so keep your eyes open.
