Floral snowflakes
This is a plant I have been longing to see for maybe a couple of years. This afternoon, I had the chance to see them a second time within a few days, in a moist woodland area! Unfortunately, they were somewhat past their prime. The flowering stems are 5-20 cm tall and have 3-10 flowers on them. The flowers are greenish white, 5-6 mm across (i.e. VERY, VERY, VERY tiny!!). Almost impossible to get a photo of such a tiny thing, especially in low light! The 5 petals are finely divided and branched and the flower reminds me of teeny snowflakes. The five rounded shapes are the sepals. I did see the seed pods and seeds last year and they are fascinating, too. I'll have to post a photo IF I can find one. To me, they look like a plate piled with black caviar!
