~ Explored! ~ Thank you very much :-))) Below are extracts from the following website - www.bsg.ox.ac.uk/about/new-building "Blavatnik School of Government opened its doors to students in September 2012" "Staff, students and academics are currently located across three separate sites" "We will be moving into the new building in autumn 2015" The new building is still under construction and I played around with this shot in GIMP Photo Software. I think the end result comes from applying the Seamless filter. But, then again..... :-)

I've always wanted to call this College “mag-da-lin”. But it is actually pronounced “mawd-lin” :-) It dates from 1458.

"Racing in the Street"

Okay.....here comes one of my slightly tenuous links for 'Sight and Sound' :-) To me it looks like the young lady on the bicycle is 'racing' the two peeps in the background to see who can be the first to reach the 'King's Arms' Public House :-) Therefore, this links to the legendary "Racing in the Street" by Bruce Springsteen. Now, I know I should use the original version by The Boss :-) But, quite simply, I absolutely love the version by Emmylou Harris from her 1982 "Last Date" album. In 2013 Balliol College celebrated its 750th anniversary being founded in 1263. An extract from Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balliol_College,_Oxford follows - "Balliol College was founded by John I de Balliol under the guidance of the Bishop of Durham. After his death in 1268, his widow, Dervorguilla of Galloway made arrangements to ensure the permanence of the college in that she provided capital and in 1282 formulated the college statutes, documents that survive to this day."

Water Meadow, Magdalen College "Fields of Gold"

Happy Fence Friday :-) Have a great weekend, All. If you walk from one of the busiest roads in Oxford thru' the entrance of Magdalen College within a couple of minutes you come to this delightful and peaceful haven i.e. the Water Meadow :-) With just a wee bit soft focus added :-) Carol (Ecobird) has commented "Fields of Gold!" And, of course, this immediately brings to my mind "Fields of Gold" by Eva Cassidy. ~ Explored! ~ Thank you very much :-))) This was a candid shot taken at one of the recent Oxford University Graduation ceremonies. I'm not sure if the lady might have been about to shed a little tear but, anyway, it seems like a good idea to me to link this to "Smile" by Nat King Cole :-) It says that this song was written by Charlie Chaplin. I did not know this :-) Looking at Wikipedia it says - "Smile" is a song based on an instrumental theme used in the soundtrack for the 1936 Charlie Chaplin movie Modern Times. Trinity College, Oxford

Sinking a bit at the mo :-) Trinity College was founded in 1555 by Sir Thomas Pope. The land was previously occupied by Durham College and was home to Benedictine monks from Durham Cathedral. It only costs a couple of pounds sterling to walk around Trinity College.....money well spent methinks :-)

"Nothing But A Miracle"

~ Explored! ~ Thank you very much :-))) Okay...here comes one of my more obscure & tenuous links for 'Sight and Sound :-) It was 'Nothing But A Miracle' that I managed to get the whole of the bicycle and the whole of the young lady into my shot. And, it was 'Nothing But A Miracle' that I NEARLY succeeded in nailing the panning technique :-) Therefore, I am linking this to "Nothing But A Miracle" written by Diane Birch and performed here by Diane Birch & Daryl Hall from "Live from Daryl's House". The Codrington Library, All Souls College

Explored! ~ Thank you very much :-))) Extracts from the College website - “All Souls College was planned, built, and endowed in the 1430s by Henry Chichele, long-serving Archbishop of Canterbury. It received its foundation charter in 1438 from King Henry VI, co-opted by the Archbishop as the College's co-founder. Henry Chichele was in his seventies at the time, and this, his third Oxford benefaction, situated right at the University's heart, was the fruit of careful reflection about what was needed in a new college. The Codrington Library started to be built on 21 June 1716, to a plan by Nicholas Hawksmoor, but the fitting out was not completed until 1751. The Library has some 185,000 volumes, about a third of which were printed before 1800.”

"Souvenirs"

Clearly this is a Souvenir shop in Oxford High Street :-) And, this immediately brings to mind one of my faves and that is "Souvenirs" by John Prine & Steve Goodman. Tragically Steve succumbed to cancer in 1984 aged just 36 years. And, John has been fighting cancer since 1998. There is little justice in this world!
