Here comes another vague link for ‘Soundtrack Weekend’.
Taken at the Kop Hill Climb the car in this shot is a 1930 ‘Morgan Jap 3-Wheeler Aero’.
‘Morgan’ is also the surname of one of my fave country singers. So, that is the link :-)))
With a pedigree dating from 1909 Morgan three-wheelers were, from the outset, highly competitive machines. Announced in 1928 the Aero Super Sports was top-of-the-range and certainly the fastest model with an 80mph top speed. The JAP engine was the choice of the connoisseur.
From Wikipedia -
“Loretta Lynn "Lorrie" Morgan (born June 27, 1959, in Nashville, Tennessee) is an American country music singer. She is the daughter of George Morgan, a country music singer who charted several hit singles between 1949 and his death in 1975. Lorrie Morgan charted her first single in 1978, although she did not break into the top of the U.S. country charts until her 1989 single, "Trainwreck of Emotion." Since then, she has charted more than 25 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts, with three number one hits: "Five Minutes," "What Part of No" and "I Didn't Know My Own Strength." She has also recorded more than 15 studio albums. At various points in her life, Morgan has been married to three different country singers: Keith Whitley, Jon Randall and Sammy Kershaw. She has sold over 6 million records worldwide.”
"Stuck on You" was written by Lionel Ritchie.

Cupola, Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford

|
|
|
The following is courtesy of Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheldonian_Theatre
"The Sheldonian Theatre was built from 1664 to 1668 after a design by Christopher Wren for the University of Oxford. The building is named after Gilbert Sheldon, Chancellor of the University at the time and the project's main financial backer. It is used for music concerts, lectures and university ceremonies, but not for drama. The building has a prominent eight-sided cupola in the centre of the roof".
You can visit inside the Cupola and take photos of Oxford views through the glass. I have been inside once and, as far as I know, they don't normally open the windows for us photographers :-( But, on this day one of the windows was open and I could see a camera poking through :-)) With hindsight I think I really should have gone inside on the 5 September!!

Without marshals there wouldn't be motor sport and the Kop Hill Climb would not have taken place. I thought it was a good opportunity to try some candid shots :-)
I would also say that, in my opinion, lady marshals are more photogenic than their male counterparts :-)

I really don't have much of a clue as to the make of this car!
But, looking at photos taken by other photographers at the event I am wondering if it could possibly be a 3-litre 'Fronty-Ford Indianapolis' from 1924 :-)
“On A Bus To Aylesbury” aka “On A Bus To St Cloud”

On 9 July 2012 the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay came through Aylesbury. The SAMSUNG Bus was part of the convoy and the lady at the front of the bus is Beau. Beau’s mother saw my shot posted on that other site and contacted me saying “This is going to be one of the most memorable and favourite pictures of my daughter that I have seen whilst she is on the Relay convoy, thought she had gone Maori on everyone :) Lol. I am making a scrapbook for Beau whilst she is away on the convoy”
I sent Beau’s mother a copy of this shot and some others taken on this memorable day :-))
“On A Bus To St Cloud” written by Gretchen Peters featured on Trisha Yearwood’s “Thinkin’ About You” album from 1995. It may sound like every song is my fave :-)) But, the first time I heard Trisha do this I was blown away and even more so when we saw Trisha ‘Live in Concert’ in Cambridge (UK).

I honestly didn't see the camera when I took this candid!
With hindsight, it could have been an opportunity to discuss the benefits of owning a Nikon :-))

A much older shot where I wanted to see what damage I could do in Photoshop :-)))
The reflection is on the roof of the hire car 'cos I used the roof as a support :-)
Temple of Music Reflected (West Wycombe Park)
|
|
|
|
Extract from “The Dashwoods of West Wycombe” by Sir Francis Dashwood -
“The Temple of Music consists of a single room in the shape of a horseshoe. For dances forty couples can be squeezed into it. On the outside there is a colonnade which runs right around the back. And beneath it a series of cellars. In the middle of the floor there is a large rectangular panel which perhaps formed part of a stage which could be lowered or raised. The inventory of 1781 mentions such a stage. The Temple was used, and is still used, for summer parties; one of Daniell’s paintings of 1781 shows it full of guests, with others arriving in gondola-shaped boats.”

This was the result of following a 'Digital Photo' magazine tutorial and I did put the original on that other site!
A couple of errors that needed fixing have now been sorted and I thought it worthy of showing here on ipernity :-)
I don't think the light in the wheelbarrow was being pinched................it was probably being taken away for repair/restoration :-)))
"Late for the Sky"
|
|
|
|
Where on earth ‘ave I been since 1974??? I must have been in hibernation not to be familiar with “Late for the Sky” by Jackson Browne :-))
I am very familiar with such classic Jackson Browne songs as “rock me on the water”, “these days”, “take it easy“, “fountain of sorrow”, “running on empty”, “the pretender”, "doctor my eyes”, “jamaica say you will”………………But, until I recently picked up “Jackson Browne Greatest Hits” for £3 (total bargain!) from Sainsbury’s supermarket I simply wasn’t familiar with “Late for the Sky” !! But now, I think I have worn out the replay button :-)))
The next thing was how to get this breathtaking and all-time classic song on “Soundtrack Weekend”. So, here comes one of my obscure links :-)
This shot was taken late-ish in the day and it is mostly of the sky. So that is good enough for moi :-)))

I tried icm but it didn't work!
So, with one of the 'normal' shots I added some motion blur in Photoshop.
And, I was more than a little surprised by the result :-))

Biochemistry Building (University of Oxford)
|
|
|
|
The Biochemistry building opened in 2008 and below is an extract from www.ox.ac.uk/media/news_stories/2008/081212_1.html .
“The new £49 million, 12,000 sq m Biochemistry building at the University of Oxford designed by Hawkins\Brown architects is now complete. The distinctive facility with its glass facades and coloured glass fins brings together 300 lecturers, researchers and students previously based in a number of separate buildings across the University’s Science Area. Inside, a large open atrium with breakout spaces and specially commissioned artworks encourages collaboration between the researchers. The transparent glass exterior of the building makes the laboratories with biomedical researchers at work visible from the outside. Coloured glass fins all around the building cast changing patterns of light while solar cells on the roof provide a significant part of the building’s electricity.”
In my opinion no visit to Oxford is complete without visiting the University of Oxford Biochemistry Building. I have taken lots and lots and lots of shots here :-) The light and colours change many times during a day :-)

Taken last Thursday that was possibly the last day of summer :-(
A most perfect day spent in Oxford :-)))
"Hotel California"

The building on the left is not really Hotel California. But, it is for the purposes of Soundtrack Weekend :-)))
I wish I didn’t have to look through so much foul language when reading YouTube comments but that is a gripe for another day!!!!
Anyway, one comment includes the line “The ending of this song is simply one of the greatest sequences in rock history”. I would totally agree!! The interplay between Don Felder and Joe Walsh is breathtaking!! Add to this the most perfect vocal performance by Don Henley.
