10-Week Picture Projects: Trees, Wk 4--Bark: Curled Manzanita Bark
(This is an archive picture of manzanita bark I photographed several years ago)
Yesterday I posted a picture of Foliose Bark Lichen attached to a hidden depression in the bark. Today I'd like to show you something very special about this lovely tree. Manzanitas have bark that peels off like pencil shavings every year, and this is very beautiful and interesting to look at and also to examine closely. It's hard to resist pulling pieces off and playing with them, and as a child, it was something I loved to do when I found one of these wonderful trees! :D
