Some birds can warn you off their nesting area, mainly in spring. I found this sign while out for a walk in the afternoon. February 2022.

:-) Though it's only one bird at a time, not a large flock.

yes the magpie gets a bad name, its only a tiny few that protects the nest til their babies have left the nest ,the others know man dont hurt them,..
we had a real cranky maggie here that only attacked the other birds when he was nesting ,and he never attacked humans ,as a result i had many doves over the years to look after as maggie hurt their wings or knocked young doves from the nest ..

Yet yesterday morning, first sunny morning in a week, as I was pegging washing on the clothes line there were 5 magpies around. One was on the Hills hoist and didn't fly away as I turned it. Another four were feeding on the ground within a few metres of where I was standing pegging the clothes on the line.

yes most are real friendly.....the ones that attack only attack in a certain distance from their nest anyways ..one place i lived, i had a long drive way,but a maggie from across the road area would only swoop at me at my letter box..iut was its cut off area lol..never swooped me as i walked back up to the house:)

The ones around here are very friendly and no swooping problems.
