WA - Dungeness Spit

Folder: Washington (state)
A large spit (peninsula composed of sediment built up by longshore drift) in the Strait of Juan de Fuca separating the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state from Vancouver Island, British Columbia. It's a wildlife area that's partially open to hiking. A lighthouse sits at the end, some 5.5 miles out; it is possible to hike the whole distance!

Outbound in the Strait of Juan de Fuca

22 Apr 2014 201
Telephoto view from the shoreline outside Sequim, Washington state, USA. Looking north across the strait; the mountains beyond are Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The strait is _very_ seldom this clear! We had extraordinary weather this trip. The beach in the foreground is Dungeness Spit, with its apparent distance considerably foreshortened by the telephoto view.
