and vicinity. This is the part north of the Buffalo Meadows Ranch, where the road turns into a serious 4WD track as it climbs up to parallel the creek on a bench to the west. Buffalo Creek is an interesting area. As is obvious in the photos, it's unusual for Nevada: the canyon is cut into flat-lying rocks, one layer of which defines the bench that the road follows. In fact, this slice of Nevada is a little piece of the Modoc Plateau, so this part of Nevada is not in the Basin and Range.
