Black-tailed jackrabbit

Black-tailed jackrabbit
Lepus californicus. One of the most common lagomorphs in western North America. It's actually a hare rather than a true rabbit--it runs (as seen here), rather than hops, and the young are born fully furred and able to run. Seen in the lot in front of our motel in Baker, Nevada, outside Great Basin National Park. This guy better develop some 'fraidness, or he's not long for this world!
