Panum Crater

Panum Crater
California, USA. Mono Lake in the background. This is the youngest of the Inyo Domes, a line of highly silicic eruptions just east of the Sierra Nevada between Mammoth Lakes and Mono Lake. From radiocarbon dating, the rhyolite dome and its associated tephra ring were erupted about the time of the Black Death in Europe!
Telephoto view from the Parker Lake trail. The photo location shows the crater, not the photography stance. The highway running across the photo in the foreground is US 395.
