Card Catalog

Card Catalog
Overland Trail Museum, Sterling, Colorado, USA. Remember when this was the first place you went in the library? When I visited the University of Washington's (Seattle) library a few years ago for the first time in years, the first thing I noticed was that the rows and rows of card catalogs were all gone. All computerized now--and easier to find stuff, to boot!
The Linotype mentioned in the sign to the right is the subject of its own pic elsewhere in this album.

Yeah, I guess they might have had esthetics going for them-- ;)

Ah, I remember card personality indices before computerisation. Usually handwritten and really awkward once you had several cards on a person.

I _don't_ miss that lost world of index cards--

I feel quite nostalgic about them. Many people in my line of work hated them, but I quite enjoyed them (except when a card was barely legible through bad handwriting or ancient tea spillages!)
