Jan Pietersz. Coenpad
Jan Pietersz. Coen lived from 1587 to 1629 and he was active in the VOC (The Dutch East Indies Company). Long revered as a colonial hero, his deeds also caused revulsion, especially the murder of all the inhabitants of the Banda Islands. About 90% of the 15,000 inhabitants were killed, enslaved or deported. It might be because of this Coen only has this back alley in Haarlem named after him.
