Hortus Botanicus 2018 – Flowers of the Agave americana
Popular with the insects because they produce a lot of nectar.
The Agave americana blooms very rarely, sometimes only after 80 years. It blooms once and the main plant dies. The Hortus Botanicus has been growing Agaves for 70 years and this is the first time they bloom, probably because they were put late in storage for the winter and the hot dry summer.
