Alkmaar 2014 – Huis van Achten

The Huis van Achten was a provenhuis established in 1656 by a will of Johan van Nordingen de Jonge. A provenhuis was a old people home. If you wanted to live there, you had to pay a capital sum and you were cared for the rest of your live. This provenhuis was for men only and no more than eight could live there, hence the name Huis van Achten (House of Eight). Nowadays it is normal house, but with only seven apartments. You can also use the representative rooms for functions.
