Visiting the former steam pumping station Cruquius
Engine room.
This pumping station was one of the three pumping stations that pumped the Haarlemmer Lake dry in the 19th century. Now the dry land is used for agriculture and more famously, Schiphol Airport. If you land on Schiphol Airport, it is thanks to this pumping station. It has the largest steam cylinder in the world. It was in service from 1849 until 1933. Then it became a museum.
