A Mandolin Dream
Saturday Self-Challenge: Music
Our family is quite musical; my husband can play Guitar, banjo and mandolin (pictured above); my daughter is a music teacher who can play piano, strings and flute (her primary instrument). My son is a guitar virtuoso and writes his own music. Music is on my side of the family, too, and I've attempted to learn violin and mandolin, but never had good enough fine motor dexterity to be any good. The mandolin is made by Martin, famous for its world class guitars.
Have a great weekend, friends, and an extra hug to you, Pam!

but I never really liked it. It was much more interesting for me
to be able to express music with my body.
Have a nice Saturday.
Strangely only the boys in the family are musically gifted.
Have a nice weekend.

I loved reading about your musical family! How wonderful to be surrounded by so much melody in your world. I myself used to play the flute as a kid but stopped just as I was finding my groove... I decided I didn't really like the sound a flute makes and I didn't like people hearing me practice. But some day maybe I'll sit down and learn to play the piano or keyboard...I do love the sound and music from them!
My oldest brother began to play guitar when he was about 12. He loved heavy metal/rock, and eventually learned to play as a virtuoso. There is nothing he cannot play. When I heard him play a classical piece, a flamenco piece, a melodic rock piece, one after the other...wow...just...wow. He's totally amazing. Played in bands through the years, toured Europe and Japan, etc, never a "big name" but could easily play with anyone. Doug is, like my parents (and well, all 4 of us kids, thank you mom and dad!!), a genius and when he points his brilliance at his music, one must sit and just gape as he plays. :) Funny, I could give you a link to some of his band URLS but it's all heavy metal (crap) and I can't stand it...maybe I'll be able to link a "pretty" piece at some point. :)
In any event, NICE JOB WITH THE CHALLENGE!

Happy new week:)
Have a great new week...
you've created a great photo with this new perspective on this mandolin. i love the block blue and green colors - the whole thing really works.
seen and enjoyed in SSC.
A very nice and colorful contribution to our topic, Valerie
I'm amazed at how many instruments you play in your family! I only ever learned the recorder and the piano. As I never was that brilliant- no winning the Chopin competition at 18;-) - I'm glad I changed to a boring but paying job in time...
