Guiding Light

Guiding Light
Today my husband and I had the pleasure of visiting the Concord Point Lighthouse in Havre de Grace, Maryland. The lighthouse was built in 1827 where the Susquehanna River meets the tidal flow of the Chesapeake Bay. It is one of the oldest lighthouses in continuous operation on the East Coast. Fully restored, the Lighthouse and Keeper’s House are open to the public on weekends from April to October. We climbed to the top to view the light with its magnificent prism reflecting glass.

I am a Lighthouse fanatic.

You were so lucky !

Beautiful old Frenzel lens too

The lens is most impressive, but I wish they would keep it clean. If I had a rag on me I would have brushed off the insects and dust, lol!

Yes, I know how lucky I am; I am also within 10 miles of the Turkey Point Lighthouse, located about 5 miles south of North East, Maryland. It can only be reached by hiking a 1.5 mile trail.

Thank you so much for the info on Frenzel lens; I googled it and discovered that this particular light house is using a 4th order lens.

Lighthouses are beautiful and fascinating, aren't they? ;-)

Thank you, Dida! The only thing that bothered me about visiting the top of the lighthouse were all the dead insects everywhere! Wish I had a dust rag, lol! ;-)

Wow you must have had to climb way up to get this picture. What a fantastic photo
8 years ago.
Valfal club has replied to Jenny McIntyre club
Thank you so much, Jenny! Actually, the lighthouse is not very tall at all, but it is extremely difficult to enter the lightroom as you must climb a narrow ladder and go through a very narrow opening. Not for the faint of heart, that's for sure!

Absolutely gorgeous shot! These lights are so amazing, imagine what it would cost these days to make a stunning chunk of crystal that big, now.
