Scottish Bagpiper Costume

Scottish Bagpiper Costume
Daughter's costume this year was inspired by our trip to Scotland in August. We saw a parade with a lot of pipe bands, in a town Robert Burns knew well.

I made: The bagpipes, the sporran, and the sock tabs. The pipes and sporran are made from a very old remnant of herringbone wool, plus a cut up t-shirt and some craft felt, and some wooden dowels, and some fiber fill, and an old pin. I crocheted the belt that holds the sporran on. The sock tabs are just bits of craft felt sewn onto loops of elastic.

The hat and vest were in my closet; the kilt and blouse were gifts from grandmother; the shoes and socks we bought (but they're perfectly usable for other purposes).

The bagpipes are somewhat 'functional' because I made a channel to insert an alto recorder, which she can play in its disguised form. ;)

It was really fun to assemble--especially making the bagpipes!
