Wilbur and Ardie Halyard

In 1925 both Wilbur Halyard (d. 1963) and his wife Ardie (d. 1989), started the Columbia Savings and Loan Association. At that time it was Milwaukee’s only African American owned bank. In 1929 Wilbur became director of the Milwaukee branch of the NAACP and eventually became president of that chapter.
