She was killed along with three other people when an oncoming truck struck the car she was riding in on June 17, 1965; she was 16 years old. The truck driver fled the scene of the accident on foot and was pursued by police until finally being apprehended at his home in Memphis, Tennessee. It was reported that he was both dazed and confused at the time of his arrest.
