Die erwachsene Fliege ist ein eifriger Blütenbesucher der sich von Nektar und Pollen ernährt, manchmal aber auch Jagd auf kleinere Insekten macht und diese mit ihrem spitzen Rüssel aussaugt,die Gelbe Dungfliege kann man von April bis Oktober im Grunde überall antreffen
