You're welcome, Jean-Paul. I added the note because the image was suggested by a member for the AI-generated images group, and some comments indicate that some other members also think it is an AI-generated creation.

As for the value of AI-generated creations, we may disagree. As attentive observers have seen and read, I have studied the matter in practice and greatly appreciate the individual artistic contributions of our AI creators. Please keep in mind, that besides photographers, artists of all kinds have always been a part of ipernity and have enriched our community with their contributions. I wouldn't want to miss them.

Thank you very much and enjoy your time.

Thank you for your assessment * ઇઉ *, which I really respect and like. Since I tend to express myself in photography, my statement was more meant to imply that your work up here is really art to me, and that with an exceptional technique. That shouldn't mean that AI creations can't be art.

Beautifully done. Thanks for not using AI!

* ઇઉ * club has replied to Eva Lewitus club
Dear Eva, I sense and see a sometimes deep aversion to AI-generated images among some members of our community. But I would like to point out, as I have elsewhere, that modern cameras are not free of AI, and yet most of us use them unconsciously and without reservation. And as elsewhere, I would like to kindly encourage all those who have reservations about AI-generated images to consider that without AI, none of us would be able to transfer the files from our cameras' storage media to our computers and from there to the Internet in order to present them to the public as photos.

Finally, I would like to refer to the second paragraph of my answer to Jean-Paul and thank you very much.

I absolutely agree with you. I love Photoshop and use it the whole time But there is a difference.I use it with MY PHOTOS, while AI-generated pictures are verbally created.

I appreciate your perspective and recognize the distinctions in technology.
If I input my own prompts into an image generator, as I can do with the camera, the latter of course (still) non-verbally, perhaps we could agree that the end result is always “mine,” i.e., always my own work?

I like your warning, but should it become compulsory in our posts, us old-fashioned faithfuls?! ;-)
I like also this parallel between your title and its subject, which a “thick” grain rightly underlines.
The genuine innocence of the subject, so aptly put into perspective, evoke either nightmares or dreams that have all been occupying us and are not solved, except through a worthy psychoanalysis :-)
I wish you a nice Sunday, dear * ઇઉ *

Dear Eric, thank you very much for your patience. :)
I'm glad you like my note. If you like, you can read the reason for this in the second paragraph of my answer to Jean-Paul.

As you know, I myself have dealt thoroughly and practically with the subject and the matter of AI-generated images. Based on my own findings, I cannot and will not share the prejudices and concerns of many without any restrictions. Yet, I respect our President William's request to label AI-generated images as such, as most of the AI creatives I know on our platform have already done before.
However, to be fair, all other members would then also have to disclose the basis of their image generation, which, assuming unconditional honesty, could lead to some awe-inspiring experience … ;))

But what does the basis of image generation have to do with the quality, expressiveness and originality of images or photos? Perhaps everyone in our community should think about this for themselves, as contrary to many claims, ipernity has never been a platform by photographers exclusively for photographers (see the second paragraph of my answer to Jean-Paul).

It is my sincerest hope that anyone who is suffering from unresolved nightmares or dreams will be able to benefit from the support of a psychoanalyst who has an in-depth understanding of our inner workings.

I am grateful for this wonderful exchange and wish you and everyone else an auspicious start to the new week.

Forgive me, too, if I'm late in reading and responding to your interesting reply, dear friend.
I smile with you at your "which, assuming unconditional honesty, could lead to some awe-inspiring experience... ;))". Let he who has never fished cast the first stone ;) Today's tools are so numerous and powerful that a published photo often bears little relation to the original...
I understand your argument concerning the presence of AI-assisted images on ipernity, as you remind Jean-Paul. Which I accepted from the start. But I was rather expecting a demonstration of the artistic interest of the 'thing', of its real human creativity. As I haven't really researched the subject as you have, I'm still left with the idea that the graphic side of such compositions is due exclusively to the machine. Correct me and I'll take a fresh look at them.
As for photo editing tools (or digital cameras themselves), despite their power, including their embedded AI, on the one hand the work is based on a first photographic draft that only the photographer's eye could conceive, and on the other hand remains the fruit of human will. Today, this is what makes the difference in my mind.
I'm aware that I'm repeating some of Eva's (and other's) arguments above.
And that we are on 2 different points of view. Perhaps irreconcilable?
* ઇઉ * club has replied to Eric Desjours club
You write: “But I was rather expecting a demonstration of the artistic interest of the 'thing', of its real human creativity.” What do you think such a demonstration might look like, if the result is not already to be understood as such?

The 'machine' can, depending on the manufacturer/vendor, create the graphic component of a composition according to the user's instructions, or it can do its own thing in this respect. I prefer 'machines' to which I can give appropriate instructions (prompts), so that the graphic component is the result of 'teamwork' between man and machine, as in photography. But maybe we are talking about two different things here, which can lead to misunderstandings.

To clarify this once again: I am essentially concerned with the end product, the finished image, and not with the basis of image production (“Many roads lead to Rome…”), which some member believe should decide what is accepted here and what is not.
Because even though our platform is more than ever dominated by photos, both photos and AI-generated images are ultimately the result of human will, human input, and technical tools.
I don't think it's necessary to go into all the details here again, as in the end, at least according to my understanding, it should be the results that count: original photos or original images that bear our individual signature, that were created with love and dedication, and that also radiate that.

Of course, others are free to disagree with me, as long as they — without resentment — allow me the same freedom. And people may not always agree, but disagreement is no excuse for bad behavior and bad manners, as I often observe and experience.
In this sense and beyond, I hope and count on an increasingly respectful, open and honest communication between people inside and outside ipernity as an expression of mutual appreciation that helps to avoid irreconcilability in the first place.

Best wishes to you and yours for a wonderful Sunday and a good week ahead.

Yes, I suppose it would be your work, but it would not be your photo.
I just looked up :Ipernity .com.
Ipernity is a non-commercial photo sharing community which is financed exclusively by membership dues without any intention of making a profit.
(Photo sharing!)
Let's take another example: Writing: You tell an AI the plot of a story, and get the result. Can you publish this AI generated story as your story?
Of course you´wouldn´t use an Image generator, but still, it would be artificial intelligence.
By the way, your camera does not see or reproduce what you see. Look at the white sky, that you saw as blue, look at the perspective of buildings, especially when you use a wide angle lense. That´s where I use Photoshop, and try to "correct" manually, what I saw or maybe, even felt..

The sense of movement is perfectly caught and the textures and colours give the photo a dreamlike quality.

AI- I'm not using it so far but am totally O.K. with it as long as photographers don't pretend they haven't used it when they have.. As with "normal" photos AI generated pictures can be good or less good;-)

The whole hubbub reminds me of the Straight out of Camera (SOOC) business where people used to brag about their "pure" photography as opposed to edited photos which I always thought hilarious because they didn't realize that their cameras had already done quite an amount of editing;-)
