The Google Earth view from 2024 shows much development in the area over the last 43 years. The small brown building in the original picture (centre left, far side of 11th Avenue) can just be seen on the GE view. It is now FedEx Ship Centre.

The concrete block to the middle right of the original picture may be part of The East Coast Memorial. The building structure now obscuring The Mariners Memorial and Harbor House in 2024 is State City Cruises and was constructed around the year 2000.

The tall building in front of the Empire State building is 250 West 34th street and constructed in 1970, just 11 years before our visit in 1981. 230m high with 57 floors.
The tall building on the left side of 34th street is the New Yorker 34th Street and 8th Avenue. Art Deco building completed in 1930.
The pictures to the right and bottom are from Google Earth showing the location in 2024, some 43 years later
