The gritstone rocks of... 'Back tor'

The gritstone rocks of... 'Back tor'
Derwent Edge has several examples of unusually shaped 'gritstone tors' which have been formed by the actions of wind, rain and frost over many centuries. These tors have been named over the years and are now officially titled on Ordnance Survey maps. Here we see the varied rock formations of 'Back tor' with a walker and his faithful dog.

ColRam, Janet Brien, Andy Rodker, Fred Fouarge and 5 other people have particularly liked this photo

Looking on the map, it is astonishing how many almost untouched land is between the agglomerations in west and east.

That's correct.. Leon'... there are some really remote pathways out there... accidents are a scary thing because help will be a long way off... 'Kinder scout' for instance is serious walking and preparation is advised....however, the region is very enjoyable.
Keep well... best wishes.. from David J'.. UK.

Magnificent! What a gorgeous view and an amazing image of these "tors". So neat to see the hiker and his dog in silhouette. Wonderful. Thanks for the info too, I enjoyed it very much.
