There were no mermaids in the ancient saxon hill top town of Shaftesbury ~ they all got washed down Gold Hill along with the Hovis boy :))

What year was that then Nick? After a couple of owners who didn't really get the importance of this great old cafe, it is now back on track with new owners....I hope :)

Hi Rosa

It must have been 1964 or 65 I think. The owner of it in those days was a little eccentric

I don't remember the owner but I got to know a lovely older lady who worked there as a waitress. Later on my cousin married her daughter. My time going to Shaftesbury by bus was more 1966, 67. We used to go to the pictures on Saturdays when there was a special bus on to get us all home. Happy days :-))

I remember the Cinema. It was near the old peoples home that my Mother and twin sister ended up in eventually in Bimport St. There used to be a stamp shop near the corner. Happy days indeed ~~~

Not a lot to tell really Dany, when I moved to Salisbury in 1966 it sort of fizzled out and I met new girls

Hey Nick, so neat to hear about your first REAL girlfriend... tell us more. I see she was a waitress part-time and that she was lovely... a lovely tribute to her Nick. I really like this street scene, the round bench area and of course, King Alfred's Kitchen.

have a nice Sunday.... best wishes and hugs. Sarah

Hi Sarah Nothing more to tell, we would go for long drives in my car down to the coast sometimes, all very innocent really, but I've never forgotten her. Thanks for your kind wishes. Here we have had strong winds today.

All the very best to Mr O & you ~ hugs

Hi Nick

A really nice collection of buildings, and a great story about your first girlfriend..
Of course it is not right to go into lots of detail in public, leave it all to our imagination!!

Best wishes, and a good week ahead.

Hello Nick it looks like the "extra feel good" times are back for this place .. Perhaps the part time waitress and first Girlfriend is now the owner

Best wishes ... Steve
