Cornish colour fantasy.

Some will remember this from Pano and 23 hq. Pure fantasy with a bit of tweaking of tone but the colours at that moment were not far off this! Bosigran Head, Zennor, Cornwall - the main climbing cliff. 2nd posting on ipernity; first time 4 years ago but worth a re-show just for the colours of this early evening shot!

I DELETED MY UPLOAD of this shot of a couple of days ago by mistake. So I have posted it again. Sorry!!! It was fairly popular and many of you made nice comments and awarded yellow stars (it was also on Explore) :o( If you would be kind enough to repeat your kind comments, I would be very grateful! Thank you!!!!

Granite and broom

La Sierra de La Cabrera, looking past Pena del Tejo (low but very interesting with its fantastic granite forms) towards Mondalindo (high but more conventional as mountains go!).

Sierra de La Cabrera.

Taken with my ill-fated Samsung phone a few years ago. I only posted 5 photos with it on Pano. The phone burst into flames while charging, Samsung said 'water damage - no compensation' I completely refute this and I will never buy another Samsung!. I was quite pleased with this shot however!

Vulture Head Rock?

It does have a name and it isn't this! Unfortunately, I forget what it is and I forget where I found out before! The wonderful world of Sierra de la Cabrera granite. In the distance, Pico de La Miel. I recall this as being the hottest day I have experienced in the sierra, so far!

Shetland ponies on Treaga Hill, Ralph's Cupboard, Portreath. There has been debate here and on Pano as to whether these are actually Shetland ponies with many members saying they are far too big. But all the literature, online info, signposts and notice boards say that they are and for want of any better evidence, that is what I will continue to call them. Maybe the rich Cornish grassland has fattened them up a treat!

Looking from Porthcadjack, past Basset Cove and Crane Islands, to Greenbank Cove, my low tide coastal route in reverse. This is closer to high tide than low tide which is why I'm on the high path rather than following the shore line!

... or Huer's Lookout, Portreath, Cornwall. The Huer had to look out for the coming of the pilchard shoal; when seen, the town would galvanise into frenetic but well-practiced action! The nightmare scenario was if it was missed because it passed by in the night! In which case somewhere else in Wales or Ireland benefited.

Men-an-Tol (holed stone)

Unknown purpose. Presumed to be neolithic. Healing powers were attributed to it at least since the middle ages (babies would be passed through the hole). Near Lanyon Farm, Madron parish, Cornwall.

Weird granite

Strange granite shape on the path up to El Cancho Gordo, It has a name which I knew but have since forgotten. Straight ahead is El Cancho de La Bola, haunt of Griffon Vultures. La Sierra de La Cabrera, Madrid Province.

HFF everyone!

Horses on Carn Marth. This is inland Cornwall but you can just about make out the sea at or near Falmouth.

Porthcadjack wave

Surfers would love this place but they have a problem; getting their boards down to this beach. Some do but very few! There are no 'friendly ' paths down: you need to know how to get here and then it is only possible at low tide. Not worth it when you can go to the Cornish surfing capital of Newquay a few miles up the coast!

Wheal Coates Tin Mine

03 Aug 2012 35 44 808
The tin mines extended far out under the sea. Descent and ascent was by ladder or primitive rope cable cars. The accidents and deaths were many.
