No vultures on this day, though! Sierra de La Cabrera, a granite extravaganza! Absolutely wonderful scrambling territory!

Climbers at the crux.

I've posted another couple of climbers here before. This pair were equally skillful! You need to be VERY sure of your your technique, strength and above all your protection gear at this overhang! The Guardian of the Mountains is stoically tolerating it all! And why not? After all, he is getting a free eyelash makeover!

A supercillious air!

The granite Agujas (needles) of El Cancho Gordo, Sierra de la Cabrera, The fog covered the whole of Castilla that day and that is some fog! Only the mountain-tops such as this here peeked out from under it!

"I wish he'd hurry up with his shot, how much longer does he expect us to hold this pose for him?" "Don't be silly, dear, we've been in this clinch for at least 10,000 years. What's a few minutes more?"

An odd granite rock

This strange-looking granite rock appealed to me. Dear all, lack of free time for the forseeable future is going to mean limited presence here. I will try to continue with uploads but may take a week or two to view all your photos or your comments. But I will catch up eventually (I hope!).

For Janet and Eunice, who asked if I ever went to the top of La Machota Chica, shown in recent uploads. Yes, I went up here. Easier and not as steep as it looks from below and the granite gives superb grip. You can stick a limb in the wide crack at the left (shaded) if you ever feel a bit wobbly!

EL Cancho Largo, the highest point in the Sierra de La Cabrera.

2 climbers on El Cancho Largo, for Maurice

This is the highest point of the Sierra de La Cabrera. It's a difficult climb with the overhang being the crux. I watched them negotiate this skillfully. I will post one or two more during the next few days.

This overlooks the palace monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial but there was no way of getting this interesting summit rock and the palace in the same shot, sadly!
