North Cornish Coast at Crane Castle, North Cliffs.

North Cornish Coast at Crane Castle, North Cliffs.
This floral foreground is no longer there but was swept away by coastal erosion sometime between 2012 and 2014.
Google Maps has a sign for a castle at this place. The "castle" is one rampart of an iron age fort, Crane Castle, 95% of which is now under the waves. What's left are the inland ramparts!

Heide, Marco F. Delminho, micritter, Nora Caracci and 47 other people have particularly liked this photo

What an awful shame, Andy. To think that so much of this amazing coastline has gone - and now the ramparts are on their way - so sad.

So these paintings are not eternal... (like the identically qualified snows), what a shame.

A beautiful colourful scene, Andy. The extent of erosion is very concerning.

Thank you, George!
Well, it's been happening forever!
But not everywhere; the more granitic the cliffs, the more resillient they are to erosion. Here, the rocks are a hodgepodge of greensand and other sandstones so erosion happens quicker.

An explosion of colourful wildflowers...............absolutely wonderful. It's a shame this patch is gone, but no doubt there will be others growing nearby. Change along our coasts never stops!

Beautifully composed and taken Andy!

The chalk cliffs down here in Sussex and Kent and the low coasts around East Anglia are the high profile areas for erosion, but there are many other coastlines like this elsewhere around the country. Our island is getting smaller and smaller!
Andy Rodker club has replied to Phil Sutters club
Thank you, Phil!
It's balanced out by the accretion of silts, mud flats and that sort of thing, or so I was told in my geography classes a long time ago! But my experience has been as you say and specifically Suffolk and Cornwall, so I see the effects of coastal erosion far more often!
