A mysterious path.

I can only imagine that the path was dug under the railway line to make life a little easier for the gardeners and workmen attached to the nearby Scorrier House.

The path seemed fairly well maintained but didn't start or end at an obvious destination. It just shows how much change to the landscape there has been since the end of the tin mining industry in these parts in the 1870s.

What a fantastic picture, Andy - it's quite an old wall and tunnel, isn't it? It really does invite you to go through the tunnel and explore what's the other side.

I guess it's early Victorian or late Georgian and assiciated with the nearby big house (Scorrier House). I reached the end of the lane just beyond this view and joined the main road back to Saint Day and home!
I had already moved to Spain when I took this and had returned home for two months as there aren't any classes in July and August (and therefore no pay! Something they forget to tell you on the training course!).

Actually while you were typing your comment, I remembered where this was taken and I have changed the map location accordingly!. I also remembered that the railway track is now a minor road at this point!

Also ein gepunktet gezeichneter Weg. Ich gehe gern solche Wege, aber oft passiert mir, dass sie irgendwo im Nichts enden oder an einem Schild: „privat“.

Maybe not to someone whose never done anything like it. When we lived in the UK there were few places where one would even have had the opportunity.

Well, it's the sort of thing I could easily have done in the gorges of Southern France as a teenager, but it probably wasn't called tubing by the French!

I was on a walk not all that far from my parent's house but I took paths and lanes I hadn't walked before. I was interested in this small tunnel / bridge and went to the public library in Truro to look at old maps (I didn't get a laptop until a few weeks after this shot, so was still into libraries rather than the internet!). I found the railway line which had become disused by 1865 after the local tin mines had become uneconomic to run by then.
