Andy Rodker club has replied to Pam J clubActually it is Spanish lavender. It looks the same as the lavender of the South of France and it used to be called Provencal, or French, lavender, but DNA profiling showed it to be a separate variety. The top two 'petals' are in fact modified leaves.
Pam J club has replied to Andy Rodker clubI am a lavender fanantic .. I use the essential oil daily. I love it. Thanks for the knowledge !
Andy Rodker club has replied to Pam J clubCuriously enough I was allergic to it for a few years in my teens. This was after I accidentally drank quickly from what I thought was a glass of water but was, in fact lavender water that my sister had just poured out. I recoiled even from the smell for a few years but fortunately that wore off.
I wish I could show you photos of my front garden in Pinner, Middlesex in about 2005 or so. I majored on lavender and the effect was terrific (if I say so myself!). It won a prize one year from the Parish Council in its 'Pinner in Bloom' contest. I hadn't even applied, but was quietly chuffed!
Pam J club has replied to Andy Rodker clubAndy Rodker club has replied to Pam J clubI never saw one and the only prize was a ... packet of mixed bulbs!!
I thought about this a year or so later as my Mum said the same as you. So I enquired and they said pics used to be published in the village magazine, which I subscribed to. But not in my year and they didn't have them as they were in dispute with the photographer about something or other (money I suspect!). Anyway I never saw any pics, for which I am a little bit sad!
And it's all too long ago to start asking now!
You're going to say 'it's worth a try!' I just know it!
Pam J club has replied to Andy Rodker clubHave a nice weekend.
A nice reminder that summer will soon be here!
Best Wishes
Peter

Andy Rodker club has replied to Leon_Vienna clubBut I agree that these are much more beautiful than the ones I used to grow extensively (and much enjoyed and was complimented on) in my various gardens in England!
