Le Thonier Biche,

Le Biche est le dernier thonier-dundee à voile d’Atlantique, construit en 1934 pour un patron pêcheur de l’île de Groix, Ange Stéphan, que l’on surnommait “Ange-Biche”. C’est le seul survivant de ce modèle de bateau de pêche construit à des centaines d’exemplaires jusqu’à la veille de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Son image reste bien sûr associée à l’apogée de la pêche à la voile en Atlantique au XXe siècle. Le Biche est devenu une institution du pays de Lorient. L’association Les Amis du Biche en gère l’exploitation et l’entretien.

The Biche is the last sailing tuna boat in the Atlantic, built in 1934 for a fisherman from the island of Groix, Ange Stéphan, who was nicknamed “Ange-Biche”. It is the only survivor of this model of fishing boat, built in hundreds of examples until the eve of the Second World War. Its image of course remains associated with the heyday of sail fishing in the Atlantic in the 20th century. Le Biche has become an institution in the region of Lorient. The Les Amis du Biche association manages its operation and maintenance.
